Oh, I’m craving the dry, warm desert air we had during my visit to the BNP Paribas Tournament in Palm Springs in March. We’ve had fabulously ~ crazy Spring weather here in the PNW lately, wild rainstorms, interrupted by sudden clear sunny skies, but definitely more rain than sun, and I’m still sporting a down vest or jacket daily. These next couple of days, however, the forecast is calling for temperatures in the upper 70’s to 80’s, before the rain comes back for the Opening Day of Boating Season this weekend.
The promise of warmth and sunshine makes me think of some of the fun Trina Turk fashions we found at the tournament, yes, Trina Turk at a tennis tournament! Between matches, one can stretch their legs and pursue a little retail therapy. Tennis Warehouse and Midwest Sports have gigantic tents on the grounds where one can find all of the latest and greatest tennis wear.
But the Trina Turk Pop Up is the unique~chic colorful oasis in that sand dune of sportswear that we really look forward to exploring each year. I love her California~country~club~on~acid fashions. They are so fun and bright, yet classically styled.
The lively spirit of the clothing was infectious, we couldn’t resist trying on all of the apparel in these creative makeshift dressing rooms made out of rolling racks and yards of leopard printed fabric. The hot desert sun drew most everyone to the fun, colorful dresses. I’m the solo lady in black, it may look basic, but this little number is a brilliant wrap around cover up, perfect for going from the pool to… anywhere, it will be a staple in my handbag and suitcase all summer long.
A number of pieces were composed of cool pastel tones, in the shot to the right below is a close up of the luxurious fabric that makes up the long Calistoga dress in the 2 shots above. The combination of sporadically sequined and not sequined sections gives the dress a nice flow and drape, but not the excessively heavy weight of an all sequined fabric.
New to me was the Mr. Turk line,
classically tailored men’s sportswear, in exciting screaming~nelly paisleys and other patterns.
I hope Trina will be there again next year, because we’ve already booked our return.
This tournament has always been a fun winter getaway, but it’s also become a very important gathering for the top tennis players of the world over the years.
If a desert retreat sounds like the right getaway for you next March click on BNP to book your tickets. To round out your stay, click on The Nest, La Quinta and Armando’s.
Hoping to see you there.
