oh baby, it is hot outside! For the next week or so, I am going to focus on some little notions to help to keep you cool.
I’ll get to those frosty friends above in a moment, but, first, I wanted to share with you the incredible view I had over Iceland on my return flight from France. The ice fields, frozen streams and blue seas filled with icebergs seemed to go on forever, and the view was so clear; I felt I could almost reach out and touch them. The window was a little scratched up and frosty, which compromised the quality of this image a bit, but I hope this vision is bringing your internal temperature down just a little.
If not, then how about those chilly shot glasses in the image above? If you joined me for that decadent beach club tour in the south of France, you may remember that I mentioned that this Eau-de-Vie slushy inspired me to create a frosty send~off.

Here’s the full story: Mr. Splendid belongs to a ski group that gets together in the winter; they also have an annual summer outing. He wanted to serve his comrade’s a shot of something stiff before they took off on a float plane for their summer outing this year. Knowing this, I was trying to think of what would be the best glasses to use. After perusing through all of my glassware options {which is ridiculously extensive}, I recalled I had purchased some curious little silicone shot glass molds a few months back. |
So I filled the cavities of “Fred'” {I wonder why they call it that?} with water and popped him in the freezer. After a few hours, I peeled away the silicone to reveal these marvelous, irregular, chunky, vessels of ice. They reminded me of those icebergs in Iceland, but these I could actually touch!
I stored the “glasses” in the ice bin, and refilled the mold to make a few more.
I also chilled the bottle of Eau~de~Vie {I used pear brandy, or Poire William}. Just before lift~off I filled the bottom of this bucket with ice, put the bottle in the center and surrounded it with the frosty glasses.
Currently, I keep “Fred” loaded and ready for any spontaneous toasting opportunity I can come up with.
Fair warning: The glasses don’t last long once they are held, after a quick shot they will melt, so the temperature and timing are important considerations when using them. Click on cool shots to order a mold for your freezer from Amazon.
