There are many unique things to love about the Hotel Il San Pietro di Positano, it is grand and quirky; rugged and refined, all at the same time. The property is filled with history and many special details.
Here are a few of my favorite things….
Off the dining room they display a substantial collection of Italian glass works {mostly from Murano}. This seahorse wine carafe is one of my favorite pieces.
A coral colored Bougainvillea reaches around of the chic lobby, thanks to holes in the wall that welcome the outdoor plant come “in”.
While relaxing in one of the seating areas, you may be visited by Zarina, the 7th generation house boxer.
Lush greens fill planters in other parts of the expansive lobby infusing the beauty of nature into the design.
Talk about chic indoor~outdoor living, please join me for a glass of wine at the beach club,
A mere four hundred and two steps down from the hotel.
Along the way you’ll see incredible views to the sea, craggy cliffs, the tiered gardens
and beds that supply the ingredients for the restaurant, Zass
and the beach club restaurant, of course.
The hotel is positioned above a natural cove, so they can boast that they have the only hotel beach club on the sea in Positano.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to climb back up all of those stairs if you don’t want to, off of this boat landing there is an elevator carved into the stone cliff that will take you back up to the hotel
and another of my favorite glass pieces, this cake dome adorned with coral, isn’t it exquisite?
Always seeking blue and white, I love these white metal pieces against the navy background, they offer a nice dimensional architectural element to the wall. Throughout the day, the light plays with the forms to cast different shadows on the walls.
Because of their proximity to Li Galli islands, or the Sirenuse Archipelago, sirens, boats and other salty elements are prominent in the artful hotel signage.
After breakfast on our fifth day, it was time to say good-bye to Il San Pietro di Positano.
And head off to hike the Path of the Two Provinces or Santa Maria del Castello trail, and then onto Sorrento and closer to Le Sirenuse trail.

What a treat! I stayed in this hotel over 30 years ago and had the good fortune to have lunch there in the lower restaurant on the water two years ago. This is one of the finest hotels in the world!
