I hope you enjoyed the long weekend {Memorial Day, a 3-day weekend in the USA}. Personally, I stayed home, where the sun kept trying to peek out from the clouds and rain. The kids had plans in town, and Mr. Splendid was sailing up in Canada, so I held down the home front. I actually LOVE a quiet weekend at home, it gives me a chance to get caught up on things. Going through my photos I found some shots from St. Barths that put me in an island-y mood, despite the drizzle.
While there are plenty of large, luxurious homes in the hills of St. Barths, I really loved all of the simple, traditional structures where the locals lived in Gustavia, on my way to Shell Beach.
With the casual codes of the island and warm air, I often did this walk barefoot, sometimes with a little splash of rosé in my glass. Want to come on a little stroll with me?
I love this shade of gray, it seems to be the perfect match to the weathered white washed shutters,
and a perfect background for the yellow flowers.
Speaking of beautiful yellows, what is more inviting than this butter yellow and white combination with the ornate trim, I wonder if these details date back to the period when the island belonged to the Swedes?
This building is on the edge of the commercial area. I wonder if a pirates cannon ball caused the damage on the upper left corner, I’d like to think so. I like this shot, because the mans turquoise shirt matches the turquoise details over the archways so perfectly.
Speaking of turquoise, I just loved all of the turquoise shingles.
Even if the paint job was a little shabby and the surrounding white a little dingy, a turquoise house in the tropics looks crisp.
Any shade of turquoise works so well, these shutters and the red tin roof made this house look like the classic island abode.
This is one of the oldest buildings in Gustavia. On the main floor, the shop TECK, was filled with so many great home items and accessories.
Including these great picnic tables, patina,
with a polish.
Hope you had a chance to kick off your shoes and see some beauty this past weekend.
Next post, we’ll arrive at Shell Beach.

The blues and grays do it for me every time!
Hi, Emily – Great photos! I adore these houses and cottages – very charming. I have never been to St. Barths so this was a real treat. And I didn't know it once belonged to Sweden.
Cheers,
Loi
Great shots! I haven't been to St. Barths in years – I'm sure many things have changed but I'm sure classic structures like these are still standing!
