It took just over 2 hours to drive from the Nice airport {where I picked up Monsieur Splendid} to L’Isle~sur~la~Sorgue in Provence. L’Isle~sur~la~Sorgue is a charming, vibrant town known for it’s abundance of antiques, and the flowing emerald waters of the river Sorgue. Over the past couple of decades, we’ve come to this village to shop several times and have cherished the procurements we’ve been able to bring from here to our home.
Considering our ETA, the proprietor of our hotel, Frederic, set up a reservation for us at Le Jardin du Quai, a restaurant located at the entrance of the town, for the ripe old hour of 9:00 pm. I must say, being the night owl that I am, I love these later dinner hours!
Le Jardin serves a set meal each night, some people don’t like the limit of options, but I personally loved our meal, especially the starting course, pot au feu . This is a wonderful soup I used to make regularly on Sundays in the Fall, long before I had children. After savoring a bowl at Le Jardin, I am reminded that this is something I need to reincorporate into my Sunday plans. Click on the name to see a recipe that is similar to the one I used to make. It is a beef broth with Fall vegetables, slices of beef and a marrow filled bone. Sorry, I didn’t have my camera fired up yet at this course.
In fact the restaurant ambiance was quiet and peaceful, so I didn’t take a lot of shots, but when I visited the powder room, I was blatantly reminded that I was in an antique capital of France when I saw this gorgeous marble surrounded sink aching with age and beauty. My trigger finger suddenly started snapping again.
I wish I had taken a shot of the row of confectionary jars filled with thick ribbons of homemade marshmallows on the buffet at the center of the restaurant. During dessert, the waiter brought the flavor of choice {mine was almond} to the table and used shears to snip off generous squares to add to our dessert plates.
Marvelous, melty texture.
Fredric’s charm preceded our introduction. He sent glasses of my favorite champagne, Billecart Salmon to our table to go with our dessert.
The weekend was off to a good start.

Nothing like homemade marshmallows!!
Happy Tuesday.
