Pick up any decor mag this time of year and you will find a spread on indoor~outdoor living spaces, “rooms” that are furnished with appealing creature comforts, but are missing a wall {or 2 or 3}. As the weather warms in our hemisphere, we all want to get out where we can feel a little breeze and hear the birds and crickets sing in comfort. The beach clubs of St. Tropez have the indoor~outdoor living thing mastered, and they should, they’ve been doing it for years. I thought I’d give you a little tour of some of my favorites, in hopes that you’ll find some inspiration that will lead to some indoor~outdoor summer bliss.
The grand dame of the of the beach clubs is Plage de Tahiti, established in 1946, and famously favored for hosting bikinied Brigitte Bardot in the 50’s. It in located on the northern stretch of Pampelonne beach, in the Baie de Pampelonne, south of St. Tropez.
Each beach club has a color theme and Tahiti’s is orange and tan, which looks splendid against the blue sea and sky.
Most of the clubs have a pier, so people to come by boat, car or helicopter.
Once you make your way across the white sand beach, a parasol
and lounger, strategically located, can be your base for a heavenly day on the beach.
Tahiti also offers a great boutique with beach and evening wear, a beauty salon, spa, and restaurants. The structures are all framed with dark wood, with touches of reeds and drift wood. These natural finishes combined with the orange definitely give the beach a Tahitian accent.
The restaurants here are not my favorites, but they do offer a nice selection of rosés.
Speaking of grande dames, look at this darling couple. From the front, it’s apparent she’s had neither a nip nor a tuck, but she’s completely comfortable in her own skin. Topless sunning is common on these beaches, and I think it’s refreshing to see women of all ages relaxing and enjoying the beach wearing whatever suits them best.
Another beautiful place. Thank you for taking us along once again.
I could live on one of the boats.
Have a nice week, Emily.
