I hope you don’t mind if I continue on a floral flourish….. I feel that flowers {and lush grass} are the prize for all of the damp days we endure here in the PNW, so I tend to thoroughly celebrate each of their arrivals.
Here’s another idea for some outdoor color…. bouquets of cut flowers. Just because they are outdoors doesn’t mean flowers need to be submerged in soil. A shapely bucket of color spotted under a covered walkway or eves is just as cheerful if it is filled with water…. and then you don’t have to deal with soil, shovels or gloves.
Another benefit of putting cut flowers outdoors is that they will last SO much longer. That’s why I like setting my ranuculus outside. I love these gorgeous flowers, their layers of delicate petals look like fabulous ball gowns. But, sadly, I’ve found that their delightfully droopy stems tend to deteriorate under the weight of the colorful “skirts” when indoors. When left outdoors, however, I find the stems stay perky and supportive for much longer.
Outdoor sleepovers are a great way to prolong the life of an indoor bouquet as well, or to delay the opening of blooms. If I make bouquets a few days before a party, I’ll leave them outside until the day before to keep them fresh.
Oh! I also wanted to share with you the name of the other outstanding orange bloom featured HERE. A reader on facebook identified it as Fritillaria Imperialis, and it truly is imperial in appearance. To see a past post on Imperialis more petite, checkered cousin click HERE. The reader shares that this plant is known for it’s “distinctly foxy” fragrance, known to repel moles!

The gorgeous colors here brightened my morning – which was needed since our sun seems to have snuck away! Such lovely tips here Emily! Perhaps drinks on our respective patios this summer? Our yard is in a bit if shambles because we're working on some landscaping projects, but the roses and lavender have started to bloom.
Enjoy the weekend! XO
