Crocus, the amuse~bouche of spring….

bye~bye California…

…and hello Seattle.

It was hard to say goodbye to the sunny skies in California, but coming home to the crocus rising above the grasses helped to make the adjustment process a little easier.
Did you know you can plant crocus bulbs directly in your lawn? They make a splendidly shocking display against the green grass towards the end of winter. I try to plant a few hundred in the lawn every few years {to see my lazy lady approach and learn more, click on Betsy’s Garden}.
Even though I’ve personally taken the time to plant them, it is still always a pleasant surprise to see the flowers arrive, just like an amuse bouche at a french restaurant.  Also, like the amuse bouche, it is a marvelous sign of wonderful things to come as winter turns to spring.
What’s blooming in your garden?
