The Black Swan

A cocktail classic, ready for the red carpet
I was reading recipes for movie inspired cocktails for tonight’s Oscars parties this morning.  Some of the most dramatic were those inspired by the movie Black Swan.

Many require elaborate preparations, but I when I looked at them I thought “what a great excuse to enjoy a lovely little Kahlua and Cream (or milk)”, one of my all time favorites.

It’s hard to improve on this simple little concoction, which is made with a shot of Kahlua (or other coffee liqueur) and milk, cream or half and half to taste. You could splash in a shot of vodka, for a little added effect — this drink is called a White Russian.

With a little advance prep you can make this beloved beverage red carpet ready (and bloody beautiful). At least an hour or so before you are ready to serve, temper a few ounces of white chocolate (click on temper to find out how).

Pour red sprinkles in a dish.

Dip the rim of the glasses in white chocolate, and then in the sprinkles. Allow the chocolate to cool and harden.

When guest come, fill the glasses with ice, add a shot of Kahlua, and vodka if you like, then fill the glass with milk or cream.
Now, I must run out and find some black straws.
