A Crown of Daisies

What’s not to love about a bright, clear Shasta Daisy??

Let’s make full use of the Shasta Daisies that are in abundance this time of year.  They make a happy bouquet, and they can easily be formed into a coronet of honor.

We love this little patch of daisies, on Splendid Lake.

So do the ladybugs and bees.

And why not?  Daisies offer clean, pure colors and an easy going disposition.

For summer days we share with family and friends, there are times when special recognition is necessary. What could be more fitting on these occasions then a crown of daisies for our neighborhood nobility?

Here is how to do it: Pick about 18 daisies, stems 6″-8″ long.

About 1 to 1-1/2 inches from the base of the flower, use your thumbnail to cut through the stem of the daisy.

Push the stem of another one of the daisies through the incision. Then make another cut in the the stem of the second daisy with your thumbnail and repeat the process until the chain is large enough to fit around the head of the person of honor.
When enough daisies are linked to make the right size, you could tie the daisy ends together, or, better yet, use twine to tie the ends together.

Trim the ends of each of the daisies, so they are 1 to 2 inches beyond the incision.

Place the crown upon the head of your chosen summer royalty and enjoy the rest of the day or evening together.

After being worn, the crowns look pretty in a round dish of water.

Place a handful of daisies in a glass to bring the sunshine indoors.
Enjoy the sunny days.
