There are so many different places to stop on the hill, each one original in their concept, most are a mix of local gastronomy, with a large scoop of alpine charm and perhaps a twist. Grilleda Alpina Alpetta in the Curvatsch ski area is a quaint, cozy stone hut with a beautiful patio for blue bird days like the one when we visited.
Their speciality is dry aged meats, mostly grilled on a lava stone grill. On Friday nights they serve a traditional fondue dinner, after which diners ski down the mountain, doesn’t that sound like fun??
If the name sounds a little Italian, it probably is, the borders in the alps get a little blurry between France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and more. In fact you can wake up in Switzerland, have lunch in Italy and then go back to the Swiss side for dinner.
The historic Ski Club Alpina is a perfect place to stop for an aprés ski beverage, it was founded in 1903 and supports all things alpine: downhill skiing and boarding, cross country skiing, biathlons, free skiing and jumping.
This Alpine Hut was first built in 1914 and they have been expanding over the past century, creating a cozy, casual indoor dining area topped with a copper roof.
The expansive viewing terrace is right in the middle of the Corviglia ski area
making it a perfect spot sit back in the rattan lounge chairs and watch all of the action on the hill.
Imagine the effort that goes on the get all of the ingredients needed to run these restaurants, this one 2550 meters above sea level. Looks like there’s been a run on Aperol Spritzes. The gondolas, snow cats and even helicopters are used for provisioning the restaurants of the Alps.
When you’re ready to head down the mountain, the town of Saint Moritz will be ready for you.
Next post will be a bit of history and a tour around the village.
