With just five ingredients you can elevate your average walnut into an extraordinarily addictive treat! If you’re not a walnut fan, any nut {or mix of nuts} will do. I love pecans prepared in this style too.
These walnuts are great for snacking and giving during the holidays.
They are so easy to make and your kitchen will smell delectable with the scents of toasted nuts and freshly chopped rosemary.
I like using a mezzaluna for chopping my fresh, rinsed rosemary
with ease.
Ingredients
- 5 cups raw halved walnuts (or a mix of your favorite nuts)
- 4 tablespoons finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 4 teaspoons dark brown sugar
- 3 teaspoons sea salt
- 3 tablespoons butter at room temperature
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spread the nuts onto a baking sheet. Slide the tray into a center rack in the oven. Toast the nuts in the oven until golden brown, a total of about 15 minutes, stirring and shaking every 3 minutes or so.
In a large bowl, combine the rosemary, cayenne, sugar, salt and softened butter.
Pour the hot nuts into the bowl, allow them to sit for a minute to melt the butter.
Next, toss the nuts, spices and butter together until thoroughly mixed.
Serve the nuts warm with sprigs of fresh rosemary. You can also freeze or refrigerate the nuts and warm them before serving. I even like them at room temperature with an apple for breakfast or a snack.
