Oh how I wish I were climbing the stairs to this incredible Terrace la Maison des Épices roof top right now! I remember how we were initially intrigued by the warm hospitality of our host who lead us up that narrow, steep, tiled stairway.
At the next level we were captivated by the aromas from the busy kitchen and the friendly interactions of all of the cooks and kitchen crew who threw us smiles and greetings.
Taking a seat at our table we took in the charm of the locally crafted umbrellas, tasseled placemats, hats and other furnishings.
The clear blue skies illuminated the 365 degree views over the Medina as the minarets released the haunting call of the Azan {<-<-<- click on the link to listen and see} that echoed off the sea of terracotta buildings below.
Finally we were rewarded with plates comforting traditional Moroccan dishes that had the most wonderful home~cooked deliciousness.
You can never go wrong by ordering a couple of tagines to share for the table. After enjoying salads and appetizers we devoured these beef and vegetable tagines which included nutty cous cous and salty, earthy green olives. All of the ingredients and spices tasted so fresh, just like we would have cooked at home.
By the way… I am working on a new tagine recipe that I am excited to share with you, first try was SO delicious, I felt ready to publish, but I always make the recipe at least 3 times to be sure.
In the meantime if you are craving some of this North African goodness here is my recipe for Chicken Tagine with preserved Lemons and click on preserved lemons for my method on how to make them with ease.
Terrace la Maison des Epices in Marrakesh is the perfect place to take a break from shopping and touring in the Medina it is also reviewed to be a wonderful spot for sunset and dinner, I can just imagine all of the lights coming up as the light fades.
I wish I could make my way through that maze of alleyways to go eat there right now!
