I love creating living natural arrangements for the home, they’re like little indoor gardens that grow, bloom and change a little each day. During the holidays, the drama of a blooming Amaryllis definitely adds to the decor. Decorative containers can create a unique look for each garden. Here, a large Chinese bowl contains a floral landscape for an entry table.
The tall stalks of the amaryllis and the future massive flowers may dominate this stage but the colors and textures of the smaller plants are what create the natural, harmonious garden environment. You can find these plants at nurseries or grocery stores. Here I’ve used a type of heather, a frosty fern {selaginella}, a mini pine tree and a wintergreen plant loaded with red berries. In the fall, the branches on my blueberries turn red, so I cut some of them to use as support for the lanky stalks of the amaryllis. Fresh green moss packed over the soil gives the arrangement a lush finish.
I love watching these blooms unfold more and more each day. At the bottom of the post you can see past posts with the flowers in fully unfurled.
These heavy french urns filled with tall, double stemmed amaryllis will flank the mantle in my living room throughout the season.
I love the elegant lines on this silver piece.
Loaded with a red amaryllis, white primrose, heather and a wintergreen plant it brings a touch of nature to my kitchen. Spanish moss covers the soil.
I bought these moss covered square containers at the wholesale florists and keep them on hands for gifts. This arrangement is going to a friend who needs a little extra cheer this year.
White amaryllis, lasting beauty with ease, the calm before the storm….
