It was about 4 years ago when I finally tore out yards of day lilies in a long, narrow bed in the back yard to create my dream flower garden dominated with blue and white flowers.
I planned it carefully with the hopes of having plenty of flowers and greens to use to make flower arrangements for as many months as possible. My “foundation” flowers are white roses in June, that give way to giant Casablanca lilies in July, and then massive dahlias and Japanese Aneomes explode from August through October. These flowers are surrounded by an array of perennials including Lavender, Ladies Mantle, Sage, Agapanthus, delphiniums, iris and the annuals I plant to fill in any open spots… all things I can combine to make pretty garden bouquets for the house with ease.
The other day I picked a basket full of blooms and decided they’d look lovely in these 3 antique sauciéres I found at broquantes in France.
As always, I started with plenty of greenery, in this case, fragrant, soft sage leaves, not only does this add nice color and texture, but the stems and leaves create a natural support system for the flowers.
Next, I balanced out the shape of the bouquets with plenty of fluffy, white Phlox. I love the sweet, peppery fragrance of these flowers.
To bring in some color contrast I kept building the shape with Blue Lacecap Hydrangeas from a large bush in the yard.
Finally, I tucked sprigs of creamy white roses into the arrangements.
I designed these to go on tables in the kitchen, family room and a bedroom, where they would be viewed from all sides, so I had to make sure they looked good from every angle, so I’ll show you a couple of shots of the finished products.
These stable little vessels are easy to transport. So when we took a group out on the boat one night, I brought them along to do double~duty.
This one blended in beautifully with the backdrop.
And these complimented my random blue and white napkins {inspired by Le Club 55}, the enamelled Pommery Champagne bucket that I probably paid too much for at a restaurant, but I just couldn’t leave without it,
and these frosted glasses of rosé.
Are you a lover of blue and white? What are some of your favorite treasures?
