Textiles were a significant part of our eye~enticing experience in Marrakech beginning with this inviting lounge space in the airport. I knew from the beginning I would have to bring something home as a momento, it was just a matter of deciding what? Come along to see how what I chose and to find out how you can bring this exotic look to your abode.
and continuing as we wandered through the souks…

It was quite overwhelming, but I knew I wanted to bring something home. We made our way into this showroom, loaded with many hand woven Berber pieces, but they didn’t have the exact piece I wanted, which was a pale gray pom ~ pom throw.

So, again, they ran us through the winding paths of the souk to the factory, where they had something very close, but….
I was hoping for silver strings instead of white.

The factory brings with it some interesting history, it is an ancient Caravanserai. The high doors were designed to allow room for carriages loaded with hand woven Berber carpets and throws made in the surrounding mountains to roll inside.

Here, weary merchants and their staff could rest and rejuvenate in the mezzanine above and

display and sell their wares on the main floor.

Today, many of the pieces are made in-house {these 2 guys make a great team!}

So I sat down with the powers~of~the~souk to order the chunky gray hand~woven cotton pom~pom bedspread of my dreams for my bedroom in Eze… gray, with metallic silver stripes and white pom~poms.

The variety and abundance of pieces was beyond overwhelming, so we had to choose a few off~the~shelf~pieces to carry home as well. This piece that caught Mr. Splendid’s eye and actually looks quite right in our Eze living room.

buried in splendid carpets
The gray bedspread looks serenely smashing on my bed in Eze, I love the texture and smell of the thick cotton weave {even though wove in gold stripes instead of silver}.

What a surprise that this blue and white piece stuck with me.
It’s now a fixture in my “command corner” in our family room in Seattle.

If you like the look, guess what? You don’t have to travel to Morroco to get it. I found several vendors on ebay that have some great Pom-pom woven blankets to choose from, have fun shopping!

Love following along on your travels. That blanket will be fabulous!!
Thank you Cindy!
