As the weather warms, and our layers lighten, it’s nice to have jewelry pieces that are also lightweight and more relaxed. When we were in Viet Nam we found some beautifully polished horn bracelets that became the foundation for many more bangles we found along the way. Horn is intrinsically beautiful with it’s unique natural variations and iridescence. We know it’s durable, since it was designed for gigantic beasts to defend themselves. When carved and polished it becomes a refined and unique piece of art to wear. All of the horn used for this jewelry is an organic by-product from the meat industry.

These pieces are made by children in an orphanage in Viet Nam and local artisans who teach this craft to the children, which can become a life long job skill for many of them. This course is just one of the many programs that benefit these children and the orphanage. In addition to learning to make jewelry, they have language, computer and other educational courses. When they turn 18 the kids are offered scholarships for continued education as well as assistance in health care and living necessities.
In addition to being beautifully carved and polished, many of the pieces are partially lacqured with chic colors and metallics, giving them an especially polished look.
