I’m a believer in the guideline that there should be something “living” in each room {and in my book, a simple bowl full of lemons counts as living}. So I wanted to puts something in that category in my sons room since he’s now home for college.
But it needed to be “durable”, low maintenance and manly.
When I came across this seagrass basket {made by TAG} and this shapely Spaghetti Strap Agave (geminiflora) plant at my local nursery, my plan clicked.
My sons room has a strong coastal theme, so the basket was perfect. Also, he’s long had a passion for cacti, and has nursed several specimens over the years. In fact, a couple of his cacti tenaciously survived though our extended absence.
I filled the bottom of a lightweight plastic pot with broken pieces of a terracotta pot, because cacti and succulents need well drained soil.
Then I added the plants, the prickly cactus front and center is one of the survivors, as is the poor leggy dear you can see towards the back of the pot. The other two are new. Polished black river rocks gave the arrangement a more finished look.
The arrangement looks great in his room, and is lightweight enough that it can be moved to the deck for a little sun with ease. Best of all, succulents and cactus only need to be watered every two weeks.
Mission accomplished!

I sadly do not have a living plant in the house, I cannot keep them alive.
I think I will try a few succulents.
