Club Ludo is an exciting event benefiting the educational programs at the Seattle Symphony. This is the 3rd year of fabulous food, wine, fashion, art and music at the Chihuly Boathouse in Seattle, but the music offering is not what you may expect. Music Director Ludovic Morlot and Board Chair Leslie Chihuly have collaborated on a mission to open the symphony stage doors to a broad range of cutting edge performers.
Club Ludo exemplifies this mission perfectly as does a song that was performed at the event last weekend, click on Just Breathe {<- there or below the photo} to enjoy, but I do warn you, it is a swoon worthy performance. Lukas Nelson {yes, this is Willie’s hunky offspring} sings Pearl Jam’s Just Breathe with soulful, sultry, swagger; alongside him Seattle Symphony Impresario Ludovic Morlot stirs the heart with the strings of his violin; while Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready melodically strums the guitar. A winning combination of the best of classic, country and rock.

This is a song that Willie and Lukas recorded together, singing to each other, the lyrics are very sweet and touching.
Between sets, The Chihuly Boathouse is an perfect place to wander, it is filled with great art and collections. Want to see a couple of my favorite rooms??
Yes, there is a fish on that dish, because what you are looking at is an aquarium that runs the entire length of the wall in this room.

These fortunate fish get to float in and out of these glorious white seaweed~like glass structures.

The aquarium also has black lights installed, which weren’t on when I was there, but click here to see a shot of it in a previous post. The blue glow on the glass creates an even more dramatic backdrop for the fish.
That guard is glaring at me because he wants to close up this room, but I persisted in my photo taking for you, dear readers!
This room is remarkable for a couple of reasons. First, of course, because of the colorfully concocted glass that makes up this row of decidedly untamed chandeliers.
Chandeliers, Chihuly Boathouse |
And secondly, because of the table. I’ve taken shots in both directions so you can see that this table is made from an 85 foot lengthwise slice of a Douglas Fir tree, so there are no seams, it’s one long piece. If you look closely you can see the bark that is still on the sides.

Click on Willie to see a touching father ~ son serenade of Just Breathe at Farm Aid.
Or click on Lukas to watch just him, again.
Or click on Troubadour to see his amazing rendition of Sympathy for the Devil at that legendary West Hollywood nightclub.
Okay, I may be getting a little obsessed, so better sign off now,
but not before saying Bravo! to Leslie, “Ludo” and all of the other people who made this incomparable event possible.
BRAVO!

Just Breathe is one of my all time favorite songs (as great as this version is, nothing beats the voice of Eddie Vedder). What a lovely event for an excellent cause! Thanks for sharing!
