Just down the beach from our abode was one of my favorite restaurants and beach clubs, the Anjuna. When I was looking for a place to rent for our stay I visited the Anjuna one afternoon and found it to be so special, I felt like I was in India, Bali and France, all at once. At that time, I really hoped that I would have a chance to visit it again. Luckily, we rented just down the beach, you can see our place in this image. To the left is the deck at the Anjuna, in the far distance to the right you can see the white villa where we lived on the first floor.
Some of my favorite Saturday nights in France were those spent here, where we were able to walk down the rocky beach to have dinner. The exotic flavors of the decor take you to the best of France and any faraway island you would love to visit.
We usually sat at a table up on the deck.
But there were also tables on the beach, where you could sink your toes into the sand while dining, watching the club riff running out to collect diners from boats at anchor in the bay.
Almost every night there would be a massive fireworks display, created for a private party somewhere in the area, but available for everyone to enjoy.
The Anjuna is also a great spot for lunch, especially Sunday lunch.
The best lunch of the year is their closing lunch, on a late Sunday in September.
Bono was there (he lives on the beach also}.
He sat right next to us and ordered my favorite lunch…
… the arugula salad with baby artichoke slices, dressed with a lemony vinaigrette and sandwiched in between slices of brescola.
and rosé
Sunday lunch here is an all day affair {have I mentioned that a few times already?} and at the Anjuna there plenty large tables filled with people prepared leisure away the afternoon sipping rosé and having fun..
the menu is a blend of meats and seafoods.
In between courses, there’s plenty of socializing…
and dancing.
When the party was over,
we had a final late afternoon swim
and then walked home, happy and a little blurry eyed, perhaps.
At this stage the staff really went to work, because after this party the doors close for the season and they began the deconstruction process, as all of the beach clubs along the Cote d’Azur must do, in preparation for the giant storms that roll in from Africa over the winter.
This weighty lady was pretty well lashed to the wall.
I hope she survived the winter storms.

This is glorious! I can feel the sand and smell the salt air. I love that you shared photos from different times of the day. How lovely to be able to walk down the beach to a place like that! One of my favorite things about Europe, in general, is how meals are events…to be savored rather than rushed through. Thanks for sharing!

So true, Emily, every element of a meal, and who you share them with, are respected and savored in France. It was such a treat to live there, trying to keep that perspective. Happy Easter. xo Emily
