After hitting the mercato {on the edge of Italy} in Menton we settled into our seats at a table beneath a sprawling lime tree at Trattoria La Mama for a bite to eat. We ordered “the plate” which was a marvelous grilled fish with a variety of vegetables and also the pasta with Chanterelles. For dessert we decided upon the Kaki fruit {a persimmon}.
This has to be the most simple, naturally beautiful and delicious dessert for fall…it’s also extremely healthy.
The persimmon was very cold, nearly frozen, and extremely ripe. So ripe, in fact, that we were able to easily cut the top section of the fruit off with a spoon. Then we dipped into the cold, sweet, elegant pudding with our spoons and we were in heaven. We found the core to be quite edible in this particular fruit, but click on tart to read a few cautionary words about persimmons.
