A trip to the beach seemed appropriate, after making it through all of the hoops presented to us during our first week in France. So, we moved to our 2nd “residence”, the Hotel Baie Dorée, where a weekend trip stretched into a five day stay. We just didn’t have a compelling reason to sever ourselves from this setting.
The hotel is situated on the quiet and peaceful Baie La Garoupe. The Garoupe beach is a lovely sandy affair with a couple of little beach clubs and restaurants, including Plage Keller. The bay is often filled with boats and on the other side of the bay there is the rocky cape, covered with pine trees.
The hotel has a pool and then a “pontoon”, or dock where guests can sun, swim, lunch and lounge. Even if you are not staying at the hotel you can rent a matalasse and come down for a swim and lunch.
We actually stayed here almost 15 years ago, and the hotel has aged nicely, it’s actually much more charming than I recall from our earlier visit.
I remember it as being more of a stark white setting. But over the years they have added a number of antiques and furnishings that make the hotel much warmer, homier and more interesting.
The rooms are light and airy, and all of the rooms look out to the sea. Many have french doors and balconies.
I especially loved this little settee in an alcove near our room.

So charming, Emily. You are not going to want to come home, lol.
Happy Tuesday.
