I meant to go back home after dropping my daughter at the bus stop today. I’ve been so busy with guests and gardening lately, I had intended to go straight home to finish up some posts. But it rained last night, and it’s still quite gray out. And it’s Friday. So, I skipped the left turn that would take me home and headed to town for my favorite morning indulgence: a cappuccino and an almond croissant or Croissant aux Amandes.
Almond croissants are a marvelous French invention for using up day old croissants. The leftovers are sliced open lengthwise, filled with almond paste; then topped with more almond paste, maybe a little wash of simple syrup and sliced almonds before being baked again. The finished result is a chewier, denser, crunchier delight with a tender almond~y center.
Bon weekend!

YUM! Just having me coffee now – this would be the perfect accompaniment!
That is my favorite kind of croissant, and not one I find here very often so that makes them taste even sweeter when I do! Your morning detour looks lovely. 🙂
This just kicked my cinnamon toast and coffee to the curb! Loos and sounds divine, Emily!
Happy Friday.

A lovely photo that made me miss France – and Nice – this morning as I, too, look at rainy skies in Seattle this morning. Noticed the Nice Matin headline: Someone got shot in the street? Yikes! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
Cappuccino and an almond croissant – the perfect coffee break for me even better when sitting in a French café watching the world go by. By the way, wonderful beach bags in your last post.

One of my favorite treats! I can almost taste it. It's finally raining in Seattle, too. Can't say I'm happy about it. But I'm reminding myself of how nice it is to stay in by a roaring fire on these wet fall days!
Bon Weekend, Emily! XO
Good for you…I have given myself increased liberties (maybe a few too many) to enjoy these kinds of "not on my agenda" luxuries. Like today stopping at my favorite bakery that has the best chocolate brownies……I told them to cut them in quarters, who was I kidding? Yes…it was demolished by the time I pulled into my driveway (and worth every bite)!
Teresa and Tina ~ you crack me up!
Glad to know there are so many mutual fans for this pastry. They can be a little elusive. Our other boulangerie in town just makes an almond triangle, paste in puffed pastry, it's just not the same.
Jeanne, I'm thinking about your roaring fire, sounds splendid!
Veronique ~ you will be here soon, I'm sure!
Oh I wish I had one with my coffee now!!
Veronica, yes on the shooting in Nice. Apparently, the victim had quite a record with substance abuse. There was also an arrest of 3 alleged terrorist in Cannes. Today in B-sur-mer there were so many police present. Just strolling the market, talking to shop owners. I think it is actually the first time I've seen Germandiare {sp?} on foot.
