My daughter loves the sea. She was away for three weeks diving with sharks in the South Pacific.
For her homecoming I decided to decorate her vanity mirror with seashells. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at seashell art, and this seemed like the perfect way to start. After sorting through my miscellaneous collections, I started laying out a rough scheme.
Then, armed with a high heat glue gun I began securing the shells.
Once I got going, they all just seemed to find their places on their own.
The majority of the design was symmetrical, but at the base I placed two unique shapely shells.
I also nestled some sea pearls randomly amongst the shells, pressing white sand into the glue as it dried.
Welcome home my little mermaid!

Emily this mirror is gorgeous! I have always wanted to try this. I had images of a gluey mess trying to get the larger shells to stay put. You seem to have conquered this art!

The pearls and white sand are a great idea.
I also like how you allowed the mirror frame to show – using it in places to frame the shells.
Cheers!

Nicely done Emily! My daughter isn't old enough to be away swimming with sharks, but she does already love the ocean so I can see myself making this with her one of these days soon. BTW I am thinking of getting a few Seattle bloggers together once school is underway again…interested? Let me know. 🙂
