Have you ever worn one?
I’ll be joining group of friends at a ranch in California in early November, where we are to “relinquish all responsibility”, hike {alot}, yoga, detox, and hopefully find inner and everlasting peace {though they did not promise this part}.
Last week we each received a pedometer to keep track of our steps. My first day was not very impressive, it was sort of an office day.
I finished with an unimpressive score of 726, putting me in the “sedentary” category ~ ouch!
According to a study out of Arizona State University:
fewer than 5000 steps is considered sedentary {so I guess on my office days I am super~sedentary}
between 5,000 and 7,499 is called “low active”
between 7,500 and 9,999 strides is called “somewhat active”
one must take at least 10,000 steps a day to be considered “active”
While at the ranch we will cover at least 10 miles a day in the California canyons and eat very few, very healthy, vegetarian, organic calories.
Not on the menu:
meat
caffeine
alcohol {including vin blanc..truly!}
artificial sweeteners
sugar
soft drinks and juice
The thirty day packet includes steps for eliminating the above things from your diet so you can manage the activities on the ranch without suffering the unpleasant symptoms of withdrawals.
Other things that are recommended for success is an increasing amount of crunches and sit-ups per week, yoga, deep breathing and developing a greater awareness of some of your eating habits. Also, they recommend not eating after dark and going to be earlier each night.
The college tours have helped me to stay “on~stride”so far.
Now I must tackle everything else.
What a wonderful adventure. I wish I was going with you — I'm sure I could use a few more steps in my life. Of course, I'll be going the the opposite direction, eating and drinking it up in Spain…
