This college visiting process is quite eye-opening. Yes, the campuses are impressive, the curriculums challenging, the teachers are brilliant, and each one has interesting and unique programs to prepare the future leaders of our world.
But one thing that continues to amaze me are the cafeterias {or dining halls, as they are now referred to}. When I think of the cafeteria I dined at in college, what first comes to mind is the scent…a blend of overcooked green beans, flavorless gravy and expired spices.
Next, I recall the colors, a pale creamy orange walls splotched with brown, and plastic trays in shades of faded burgundy and grotesque green with a painful looking patina.
If your recollections are similar to mine, you too may feel a little gyped when you see what kids are eating in college today.
In addition to the standard choices of cuisine, they offer specials such as a barbeque bash a couple of days a week; featured chefs preparing their signature dish for the students to watch; guest chefs cooking their favorites once a week; street food weeks, offering worldly foods and culture; and a nutrition series, to help the students learn about healthy eating.
Here is an example of what the students can choose from in the Persian and Asian stations.
Or if they want something a little lighter, the deluxe salad bar is called Wholesome field, and they offer a wide selection of sushi.
If they are looking for something with a little more spice? They can drop in for some Latin fare or a little Italian.
If meat is on the mind, they can help themselves to barbeque or play it safe at the Kosher counter.
Not quite satisfied, darling students? Stop in for a sundae at the dessert bar and all will be well.
For those with allergies, all of the foods are coded so they won’t choose something they may regret later.
This spectacular cafeteria can be found at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
“CU’, as it is called, has a gorgeous campus. One of the keys to the beauty is the lovely limestone, all of the buildings built since he school began were made with this stone, all from the same quarry. The university was established in 1876, the same year as the state of Colorado, and has grown from one building to a sprawling village of structures. But at first glance, because of the common shade of the stone, it looks as though it was all built at the same time.

Oh my word! Well, it's so great that students have these amazing choices now a days…I didn't even know what sushi was when I was 18!
Beautiful campus…

Wow I could see someone going there just for the food choices alone..geez!! You are so right they didn't do things like this when I was in school,, choices choices!! But then again when you ordered coffee, you did just that, said 'I want a coffee" only choice was sm. med or large now its a "soy latte skim froth or no froth" or some other garble like that, there must be at least 70 different ways to order coffee….so can imagine what the food choices are!! Amazing though for me I like things nice and simple..too many choices makes me dizzy! Beautiful place though, Colorado is quite stunning.
So exciting. That campus is beautiful and the food looks amazing! Shockingly amazing! M.
