Bar Mut helped to make our transition from rustic Mallorca to swinging Barcelona a breeze. What I enjoyed most about this little pub of a tapas bar was the vibe, the servers were quirky, engaging and fun. The place was crowded and lively, but the service was fast. All of the customers were enjoying themselves and that contributed to the spirit of the evening.
Every square inch of this place was filled with a blend of old and new. The wine selection was displayed on one wall including price tags. Intermixed with the wine bottles were old fashioned soda spritzer bottles.
Contemporary art hung on the walls,
and tables were supported with old wine barrels.
To the delight of our kids each of the tables was outfitted with a spritzer bottles so they could serve up their own glasses of agua con gaz.
The food was served tapas style {plates to share} and everything was well prepared and seasoned. Some of our favorites were these long thin clams simply served with herbs and a buttery sauce.
The frites tasted like they were fried in olive oil, they were crispy on the outside and tender in the center. Best of all, they had tossed a few Pimientos de Padron in with the frites, one of my all time favorite tapas {click on the name to read a previous SM post}.
One of the dishes the restaurant is famous for is slices of steak topped with foie gras…. we thought it would be rude not to give it a try.
My only disappointment was that it melted in my mouth far too quickly.
Their most famous dessert is this torrijas, sort of like a sweet orange scented french toast in a carmel~ly sauce served with ice cream and toppings…a little to much gluten for my taste, but most people loved it!
Now, if you are the dashing owner of Bar Mut, you get to just swing into the place, pick up a few trays of prepared food, maybe a magnum of your favorite wine, and head back to your chic little abode for a more private gathering.

pssssst…. an amiga just shared with me that there is a stairway to the right of the restaurant which leads to an even finer quality restaurant, where they also play jazz. She should know, she just returned from living in the city for a few glorious months and regularly visited Bar Mut for lunch.
