I hope you are having a splendid day as a mother, and/or with your mother {or thinking about your mother} today.
My mom was {is} a great artist. She painted this portrait of me. I will always remember that ruby velvet fitted dress with the covered buttons up the front. As I recall, this was painted at Christmas time, and I think the little images in the background were supposed to be little dreams of sugarplums or other delights, that may have been dancing in my head.
BTW, I think the brush slipped a little when she was painting the dress, I’m sure my belly did not protrude quite to that degree.
Emily Heston, a mother’s portrait |
When I look at my life today, I must admit that things I learned from my mom were quite formative.
This makes me realize that mothers have a wonderful opportunity to gently pass on values, history, rich information, tastes, humor and grace.
Thank you mom, for all that you taught me and for your support.
Happy Mother’s Day!!

What a lovely painting and memory. I know that my mother has influenced me in more ways that I don't even realize.
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day, Emily! XX
