For our final days in the Golden State, my son and I visited several colleges. We navigated, drove, did our research, went in with open eyes and made it to a couple of tours each day. In between, we talked about what he liked, and what we didn’t, we watched few movies in our hotel room, visited in~and~out burger, had some great sushi, and overall enjoyed a splendid little roadtrip.
Just between us, please don’t tell anyone, but I am covertly trying to recruit him for U of MAMA, I mean, why change a great thing?? Right???
But, just in case U of MAMA, isn’t his first choice, of course, I was completely focused on finding the right institution for him throughout this tour…..well, most of the time.
Every once in awhile, I must admit, I felt a little like the fellow below.
Every once in awhile I found myself thinking, why, oh why?
Why didn’t I go to one of these schools??
I actually loved my Alma mater, and all of the friendships and experiences I had there. But it just never occurred to me that I could have had similar experiences in a land of blue skies and palm trees.
citrus groves,
and Spanish architecture,
olive trees,
and year round blooms;
warmth and light,
and all that comes with all of that.
You know, I think U of MAMA could easily open a southern satellite campus.

I desperately wanted to go to college in California. I applied and was accepted and then my father, who evidently didn't even know I'd applied, said it was too far. He said I should try an east coast school for a year and then if I didn't like it I could transfer. Clever man – of course after the first year, I had made friends and didn't want to leave. But the California campuses are indeed beautiful!!
