I hope you all have a spectacular weekend. I am very excited to be attending the International Food Bloggers Conference this weekend. The schedule is packed with speakers and activities providing information on writing, photography, technology, food and wine, what more could I ask for?? I’m sure I’ll be posting more information from the conference is future posts, and maybe even make some improvements here around the market as a result of some wonderful nuggets of information I will be gleaning.
Starting with the #freshbloggers gathering last night and going into our lunch by Chipotle today, there is a distinct emphasis on the importance of natural, local food. I love quick video The Scarecrow which brings that message home, simply and beautifully in a way that all ages can appreciate it.
This time of year, one of the great delicacies in our part of the world is corn, sweet from a summer long of sunshine, crunchy and flavorful. At the bottom of this post, you’ll find 3 of my all time favorite recipes for preparing fresh corn.
These shots are from our drive to Chicago last weekend, after visiting my son at Purdue in Indiana. There were miles and miles of cornfields that stood out beautifully against the grayish~purple sky that was preparing to storm.
We saw many old farmhouses and barns along the way, probably belonging to farmers who’s families have been in this “business” for generations.
I hope you have a chance to get your hands on some corn, just picked from the stalk this weekend and try one of these preparations.
No photo for this one, but it is a keeper. Check out the comment from reader “baker girl” who’s tried out some modifications to the recipe and who made the soufflés in individual ramikens {wish I had an image of that!}
In addition to corn, tomatoes and basil are also peaking in the gardens, so why not toss them all together and feast on this Corn~off~the~cob salad? Click on the caption below the image for the recipe.

In case you missed this, here is a fresh take on corn {for me at least}. This is a common snack in Thailand, made with coconut cream and basil, and roasted on the fire. Three more Thai corn recipes are link to the post as well, click on the caption and roast away!
