During my stay here in the South of France, one of the things I have found most amazing {and delightful} is the amount of high quality prepared foods that are available. From the small village vendors in the markets and shops or the larger Lafayette Gourmet or hyper marches, one can easily put together a delicious meal, that only takes a few minutes to prepare at home.
Of course, the French love great food and leisurely meals {and I LOVE that about them}, but with their smaller {than American} kitchens, it is would be difficult to regularly create a big meal at home. Hence, I believe, the massive amount of good quality prepared foods available in the market place.
Here’s an item that has been a big hit at Chez moi lately, it is available at the larger sized commercial markets. These are little bite sized pieces of herby, garlicky Boursin cheese neatly rolled up in thin slices of Prosciutto ham.
I added them to the cheese bar I had set up for a Sunday lunch, and they were quite popular. I used bamboo skewers and put 2 on each skewer. Aside from the ever popular herb flavor of this cocktail staple, I think people just liked the fact that they were so easy to pop in their mouths between sips of wine. Sorry, the watermark is sort of blocking the plate of these savory somethings, they are in the front, right corner.
Now, as you probably know, I am all for homemade goodness, so I would feel neglectful if I didn’t provide you with this recipe for homemade Boursin cheese, or this recipe for homemade cream cheese. Or if I didn’t say something like “to make your own, form Boursin cheese into a roll, wrap with saran and refrigerate for an hour. Then, wrap the cheese roll in slices of Prosciutto and slice”.
It really would be quite easy to make these at home, but, really, that sounds a little messy to me right now compared to this:
So, instead, how about we all start writing to Boursin and insisting that they expand the distribution of this product so we can all have it waiting in our refrigerators in our time of need??
It’s our apéritif right, don’t you think?

These haven't reached the UK yet but when thay do, I'll be buying them! I'm a big fan of Boursin and I have a few simple recipes which include it and it really makes a jacket potato or chicken breast more interesting!
