The Sunday Marché in L’Isle sur la Sorgue was just out the front door of La Maison sur la Sorgue. It was a little early for us to wake up to the French voices setting things up prior to dawn outside our window, but it was also interesting to get a taste of the work that goes into making these markets happen.
As you may have guessed, I’ve been to quite a few French and Italian markets lately, so I’m getting quite selective about the images I share the market I recommend to you. I must say, the foods and displays at this market were really exceptional. Want to stroll the aisles with me?

Olive oil and drying peppers, Le Marche L’Isle sur la Sorgue |
Tapenade, Hummos, and other tasty spreads and appetizers. |
Olives galore, so wish I could provide a “scratch and sniff” option here. The fragrance of this booth was earthy and intoxicating. |
Hand crafted cheeses. |
Herbes de Provence |
Fresh Chestnuts |
Mushrooms from the local forests, Sunday Marche, L’Isle sur la Sorgue |

Chickens roasted over a layer of pomme de terres { or potatoes, “the apples of the soil” see them at the bottom of the rotisserie?. |
A massive sack of lavender. |
A perfect flavoring for so many dishes, coarse salt avec Herbes de Provence. |
These Vanilla beans were so etherally fragrant. Did you know vanilla beans are the stamen of an orchid? |
Delicious cheeses, postcard perfect. |
Happy November!

Oh my gosh, the mushrooms, cheese, vanilla, and herbs, and the lavender of course look divine! I could bury myself in the lavender.
Thanks for sharing, Emily.
Happy Thursday.

Happy November, Emily! Wish I could hop on a plane and go to market with you. But this virtual visit is the next best thing. I can imagine all the heavenly smells, the vanilla, the cannelle, and the CHEESE! yum.
Have a beautiful weekend! XO

Just catching up on your posts after my holiday. Amazing photos and so much to admire here – I can spend hours wandering around French markets! Love the displays of cinnamon sticks and the sack of lavender – I can almost smell everything!
