As I’m watching CNN tonight and their coverage of the approach of Hurricane Sandy to the Eastern Seaboard, like most, I am wishing for the waters to calm soon. So, I thought this would be a good day to share the calm beauty of the River Sorgue that runs through the town of L’ Isle sur la Sorgue, France.
Along the edges of the river there are lively markets, restaurants and shops. But the lapping sounds and constant flow of the river brings a serene vibe to the town. There are numerous watermills along the river that used to generate power for the fabric and paper mills that were once dominant industries here.
Today, they are just a gentle reminder of what life was like during earlier days on this body of water between the foothills of the Alps and the River Rhone.
Batten down the hatches, my East Coast friends, wishing you smooth sailing soon!
