Fruited Branches

If you have visited the market in the fall before, you’ve undoubtedly seen a few images of the glorious quince. In the past I have show the fruits piled in baskets, their fruity fragrance keeps the house smelling  so fresh and lightly fruity {click on quince essential to learn more}.
This year I trimmed some branches from the tree, most of the branches had fruits that were smaller, and probably won’t have a chance to ripen before the cold sets in.
The branches were casually arranged in a tall cylinder vase, and the bottoms were trimmed to an even length. The black stones at the bottom of the vase give the bouquet a more finished look, and help to offset the weight of the fruit.
Bouquets like this are a wonderful way to bring the beauty of autumn indoors, as the weather cools.
I love the natural, irregular look of the collection of branches,

and the chance to enjoy the individual fruits at different stages of ripeness without having to go outdoors.

Quince can be found in grocery stores, farmers markets, neighbors trees. If you are fortunate to come across a few, bring them home, to display them or taste them {or both}.

Here are some splendid recipes we’ve shared in the past:

Quince Slices in Vanilla Syrup is ethereal! The slices are wonderful over ice cream of served in tarts.

  • The quince arrangement is beautiful…I love having fruiting and flowering branches brought indoors. This spring, I used crabapples, which were so pretty. I've never actually had anything quince before, but have always wanted to try it…especially the paste…you've inspired me to make an effort!
