All that was missing from the Mercat St. Josep were picnic baskets.
This market was filled with all of the things one would like to have in the cocina, but they also offered a great selection of foods ready to eat. This would be the perfect place to come to pack up a picnic basket, get a tasty lunch on the go, or a dinner that is pretty much ready to serve.
Aside from serving a variety of Spanish cheeses, this cheese monger sold skewers packed with a salami, cheese squares and crackers.
In addition to a great selection of finger fruits, including my cherished fraise de bois {maduixeta},
exotic litchies and rambutan,
there were bites of coconut, and a marvelous selection of fruits sliced, and packaged with utensils, ready to go…
There was a wide variety of hams to be expertly sliced.
They also offered small packages of chorizo sausages and thick slices of hams that could be nibbled upon immediately, or saved to be savored at that perfect picnic spot.
If you were in “lazy lady” mode, but need to serve dinner at home, this is the ideal mercat to visit!
After frying up a few batches of pimentos de padron and sprinkling them with sea salt,
You could put out a combo of tapas {sold by the pound}.
Hmmm.. and what to serve for the main course? These fried egg topped pizzas seemed popular.
But, I think I would favor these peppers stuffed with meats, grains and cheeses. They’d make a great meal with a side salad.
Oh, and this Lasanya is sure to please {sorry I didn’t ask for the recipe}!
After all of that shopping, one could sit to have lunch at one of the lively restaurants within the market. The crowds around these restaurants were thick and all of the food looked delicious. If we had more time, I would have loved to sit down to enjoy some traditional Spanish fare at this lively counter.
After leaving the market, I suffered from serious “shoppers remorse” for not taking one of these fabulous crepes to go…
I don’t know, maybe I didn’t order one, because I couldn’t choose. What would you have chosen, the banana chocolate or cheese and procuitto?
How about tomato, basil mozarella?
or brie with figs?
Back to the lazy lady dinner, to finish things up, if you needed something seriously sweet and fast, a quick stop by this display of jellied fruits..
or this outrageous candy counter could do the trick.
Vamos, vamos! The espadrille shop is about to close!

Oh my Emily…I will take one of everything! It's no wonder you could not make up your mind. Delightful feast for the eyes, but I skipped breakfast this morning and now since I am no where near Barcelona…I will be headed to Superica today for lunch! Hope you are enjoying these last days of summer.
