La Fête
Thank you so much for all of the comments on the decor process for this event. The party was splendid!
While this view was more than pleasing for every eye in the room, I think the decorations were a fresh and inviting addition.
The deck off of this spacious penthouse at Olive8 offers great views of the city skyline,
including sights of the ferries on Puget Sound.
For a big affect is this vast, unfurnished, home for the day, I thought bunches of branches, painted white might do the trick.
The natural shape and form of these branches did create a nice addition to this handsomely-appointed, contemporary setting.
The on-site decor team of EHR guild members used Plaster of Paris to secure the branches upright in plastic buckets — then we covered the buckets with “English bump”. Bump is a thick type of felt that is used to line curtains (it adds a marvelous thickness).
Bump is perfect for a project like this because the edges don’t fray, so they look more “finished” without hemming.
Tall white vases gave height to these spiky white branches.
I loved the sculptural essence of this branch {I wish you could see the delicate smaller off-shoots better}.
At the last minute, I used 2 pieces of kitchen twine to hang it from an existing hanger on the wall…I couldn’t believe how stunning a branch from my garden became when displayed as a work of art.
In addition to the painted branches I brought some flowering cherry branches to add a little more life to the room.
Placed in tall white vases, they provided a fresh visual image and took up very little space on the kitchen island, which was later filled with delicious nibbles from the creative caterer, The Wandering Cafe (isn’t that a great name??).
People loved seeing the delicate white cherry blossoms aloft as they noshed.
This unique little alcove seemed in need of a little flowering cherry as well.
One of my favorite decorative elements was also quite tasty. I found barrels of these white cheese balls at Cost Plus World Market and knew we had to have them. These “Bunny Tails” were crispy, crunchy, salty and cheesy and looked great in these lovely vases (also from Cost Plus, both products were only 7.99!!).
They were a tempting treat at the bar,
and throughout the room.
These rented tables in the sitting area had lights inside which emitted a blue glow at night.
On them, white stones were artfully displayed (by our youngest volunteer) to add a natural contrast.
The terrariums of snow drops were a vision of spring on the tables.
White ceramic pots of hyacinths presented a welcome shot of green on the fireplace,
and in the bathrooms.
It was great, glowy night, and it was such a pleasure to collaborate with all of the talented women of the Eleanor Henry Reed guild to put on this event. We were all happy to be with great friends and supporters and to raise money for the uncompensated care fund for Seattle Children’s.
A special thank you to Olive 8 for allowing us use this spectacular “home in the sky” for our event!

So glad to hear your event was a success!! Love everything you did – the branches are beautiful and love the terrariums of snow drops as well.
It looks absolutely gorgeous. I love white, and you all did such a clever job pulling together these beautiful elements — cheese balls, too! I'm glad your event was such a success. So great to see what other Seattle Children's Guilds are up to!

Congratulations on the successful party. I love the simplistic, yet modern approach. It looks perfect with the backdrop of the Space Needle. What a view!
Emily, I hope you are well. Thank you for taking the time to stop by recently. Enjoy the weekend.
