kale

shades of green (and a little ghoulish silver)..

In my opinion, due to lack of options, kale tends to be overused come fall.

Kale plants, from the deepest purple shade, to the most pale cream can be found in many a street garden and front door pot this time of year. Despite the over saturation, I do find I have a weakness for a particular kale plant. I love the version with a celery green center, surrounded by creamy white leaves, and then encircled with deeper green outer leaves. I find it to be refreshing, bright and a great natural-neutral. It creates a lovely background for any other flowers or decor.

So, what do you think of giving the common kale plant a more elegant presentation? After lining this silver punch bowl with plastic and laying down a layer of soil, I packed in as many green and cream kale plants as I could, in addition to…

white pansies, for brightness,
and for fragrance, white jasmine.

After the arrangement sat on my counter for a few days, I realized why kale is considered to be more of an outdoor plant.  It really smells! Sort of like rotten cabbage.
So I moved the bowl outside, where it looked unexpected and spectacular.

But how could I make it SPOOKtacular?

This silvery, glittery pile of bones were the splendid finishing touch.

Right now though, coincidentally, I'm off for a mani/pedi of my own!
