Quince essential
We love the power of flowers, but when fortunate enough to harvest a basket of shapely quince they become the focus of our decorative arrangements.
These quince were picked while still slightly green and fuzzy. In the house they will ripen. As they ripen their fresh, sweet fragrance intensifies and infuses the air. The flesh will become a deep yellow and waxy.
All the while they bring beauty and a complex scent to the home.
If you are quince-less, try arranging apples, pears or citrus fruit in splendid vessels.
When ripe, slices of these fragrant fruits will be preserved in a vanilla syrup. They make an exotic finish to winter meals. One of these splendid jars will make your favorite hostess very happy.
These quince are from a mature quince tree. A smaller, equally fragrant fruit is produced by a quince bush. Quince bushes grow quickly and can be very large. In late winter, their branches make indoor arrangements we yearn for.
