S’mores are a classic campfire tradition in the summer, but despite appearances — not all S’mores are created equal! Here are some tips to bring your s’mores to a higher level of splendor.
Aside from the being a sweet, rustic treat, the 3 ingredients in a s’more offer a desirable textural combination for the mouth.
The method described below heightens the textural contrast — the crackers are crisper, the chocolate is creamier and the marshmallow is soft and gooey!
Our experts have made many a s’more on a summers eve and have come up with a process to emphasize the texture, and therefore the enjoyment of the s’more, with ease.
Ingredients
yield: 1
1 graham cracker
1 marshmallow
4 squares chocolate
(Hershey bars are just fine, but there are plenty of Belgium (Callebaut is our favorite), French and Swiss chocolate bars available in local markets these days which will, perhaps, make your confection much more to your liking.
Build a roaring campfire in a safe location.
Locate a rock with a flat surface (about 8″x4″) near the fire to heat.
Break graham cracker in half and place pieces on rock.
After a few minutes, place the squares of chocolate on 1/2 of cracker.
When fire has died down, place marshmallow on tip of a stick.
Find a pocket of embers and hold marshmallow near embers, about 4-6 inches from heat. Rotate marshmallow, until it puffs and is golden brown on the exterior.
