Snow Colored Branches
I love twigs and branches. They are so strong, yet delicate. Each one looks so perfect to me, yet unique. I develop angst when I see a gardeners truck filled with gorgeous branches, heading to yardwaste — I yearn to bring them home and arrange them in any decorative cavity I can find.
During the holidays I like to use white painted branches for flower arrangements and other displays.
When I walked in the doors of Bergdorf’s the other day, I knew I had entered white twig heaven! Here twigs were openly used with reckless (yet elegant) abandon, most inspiring!
At the end of the post are 3 of my favorite winter holiday flower arrangements, they are easy to put together and will bring natural beauty to your home for weeks. Oh, and, of course, they all include white twigs.
But for now, let’s take a little stroll through Bergdorf’s. The doorways were thickly lined with bundles of white twigs, loaded with white lights. Silver urns were the finishing touch.
Handfuls of twigs were arranged to create a halo around the lights on the chandeliers overhead.
Can you see the white twig border around the panel behind the chandelier?
The book cases and shelves were topped with white geese, in thickets of silver and white branches.
I love the twisted branches draping down the wall.
White containers were spewing branches, accented with white frosted clumps of moss and evergreen sprigs.
The massive display of twigs at Bergdorf’s look grand. Would you like to bring a few beautiful branches into your home?
Here are 3 flower arrangements, which can be easily assembled. I love these displays because once in place, you will be able to relax and watch their natural beauty unfold for weeks, all you need to do is keep them watered.
Click on the caption below the photo to learn more about the finished arrangements. Below each of the photos, click on the flower names to learn how to make the arrangements in your home. Please be creative, these are all white, but use any color you choose. If you have any questions, contact me at ebh@splendidmarket.com.
I have one correction to each of the how-to instructions — add a few more white branches!!
White twigs make great supports for paperwhites en masse. |

I love the peaceful beauty of amaryllis and hellebore’s for the holidays — and I love how long this arrangement lasts. The photo above was taken 6 weeks after I this put together! To see how to make this ethereal beauty click on Amaryllis.
I must run out now to find more branches – I have been able to find large bundles of painted white branches at local grocery store floral shops.

Bergdorf's has the most beautiful decorations – and merchandising! I love branches also but I'm not always so good with them – all 3 arrangements are lovely but am particularly loving the second!
